Research group

Movement and Function

The aim of the research group is to strengthen research in the area of movement and function, and stimulate and conduct research of high quality and relevance to the hospital's target groups.

Background

The purpose of the research group is to gather those working on research projects within the same thematic areas, to work more together, exchange knowledge, experiences and contribute to research of higher quality. Projects should be part of clear networks with several national actors, preferably international actors if possible.

There are many ongoing research projects in the research department that have movement and physical function as common denominators. The projects encompass many different patient groups, and may include evaluation of movement patterns, analysis of walking, examination of balance function, measurement of mobility and range of motion, measurement of cardio-respiratory function and investigate the effect of physical and motor training. Research knowledge and expertise in these areas are spread throughout the hospital, and by gathering these projects into regular meetings and discussions, one will be able to lift this area, and lead to better research.

Main topics / focus areas

Development of new, interdisciplinary methodological knowledge about examination and evaluation of gait, balance, motor skills and other movement functions as well as cardio-respiratory capacity and lung function. Investigate the effect of the use of existing and new technology for physical and motor training of the same bodily functions. This will apply to patient groups with various forms of movement disorders. In practice at Sunnaas, this means the academic communities and research, master's and innovation projects associated with the Movement Laboratory and the Clinical Physiology Laboratory, as well as the robotics laboratory, the VR laboratory and those that use related advanced technology that deals with movement. The main objectives can be said to be to contribute to better rehabilitation, measure the effect of rehabilitation, and develop methodology for this. The research group will have a main focus on the hospital's patient groups.
