Spinalty in Gothenburg in 2025

This event builds on the Spinality initiative, which was established during the ISCoS/NoSCoS Congress in Gothenburg. Through personal stories, professional perspectives, artistic expressions and open conversations, the event created a space for addressing topics that many people find difficult to talk about. Now, we are bringing this initiative to Norway.

Love, intimacy, sexuality, family life and self-image

For many people living with a spinal cord injury, rehabilitation is about much more than medical treatment and physical function. It is also about love, intimacy, sexuality, family life and self-image.

Through Spinality Oslo, we will bring together individuals with lived experience, partners, healthcare professionals, researchers, artists and decision-makers for an evening designed to inspire reflection, knowledge sharing and new perspectives.

The event will serve as a platform where experiences can be shared with openness, respect and warmth, and where we can collectively explore what it means to reconnect with intimacy, identity and joy in life after a life-changing injury.

The decision to hold Spinality in connection with NoSCoS 2027 is no coincidence

In recent years, the Nordic spinal cord injury community has demonstrated a growing commitment to issues related to sexuality, relationships and quality of life after injury. Through research, user-led initiatives and new collaborative projects, we have seen a movement that challenges longstanding taboos and promotes a more holistic view of rehabilitation. Spinality Oslo will be a natural continuation of this development.

The Sunnaas Foundation is proud to carry forward the legacy of Gothenburg while adding a distinct Norwegian perspective to the event. Through our work with Partners in Spine, mentoring programmes and Active Rehabilitation, we have witnessed how vital relationships, intimacy and a sense of belonging are to living well after injury. We hope that Spinality Oslo 2027 will serve as a reminder that rehabilitation is not only about surviving, but about truly living.
